The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Freshwater” Is Releasing On February 15th

2020, though well-replete of new releases, was arguably defined by its various revivals. Across both Jordan and Nike, the umbrella has strategically catered to the public’s nostalgia, dishing out pairs like the Jordan 4 “Fire Red” as well as the Zoom Spiridon Caged 2 with great timing. 2021, as leaks have proved, is poised to be much more of the same as the brand will soon usher in icons like the Air Griffey Max 1 “Freshwater.”

First released in the 1990s, the colorway is finally receiving a faithful tribute four years after its last Retro. Two-toned and dressed in the signature colors of the Seattle Mariners, the silhouette delivers Air Max tech and a lockdown strap fit for Ken Griffey Jr’s standout style of play. Embedded “24” hits nod to the player overtly, while the accents that surround are far more understated, primarily constructed of white leather underlayers and robust, black-dressed overlays (Swoosh, eye stays, mudguard, etc). Behind, the counter is scored with embroidered Swooshes, contrasting the complexity of the baseball graphic that adorns underfoot.
