Quite a bit of New Balance’s more interesting releases have come out the doors of their Tokyo Design Studio. And while the 57/40 may parade globally, it holds no candle to the TDS 574, which reworks the same 1980s form to a more sartorial degree.
Effectively a sneaker for the post-sneaker world, the pair in concept is more akin to a dress shoe. The upper, though constructed of the same premium suede and mesh, is far smarter in look, removed of its usual reflective “N” logo and tongue label. Only the silver heel tab brands in typical fashion as it touts “New Balance” in the signature black font. Below, the tooling undoubtedly steals the spotlight as it replaces the usual tech/cushioning for a Goodyear welted, Vibram-made ripple sole.
Arriving alongside complementing apparel, the TDS 574 will be available via New Balance JP and select overseas retailers on May 7th.
In other news, the MADE Responsibly 998 is landing this Saturday.
UPDATE 5/5/2021:
The New Balance TDS 574 will also release in the US on May 7th.
