First debuted in 2006 as a performance runner, the New Balance 992‘s return last year proved that the silhouette has fully infiltrated the lifestyle scene and has become a favorite dad shoe to many—and its association with Steve Jobs only strengthens the case. Fast forward to 2021; The Intelligent Choice is once again bringing the 2000s model back—in an unexpected triple black.
Since the 992 often sports a grey-based color palette (although a handful of color-blocked styles do come, usually in the form of collaborations), the all-black proposition arrives as much of a surprise. Plush mesh uppers are complemented by suede and leather overlays throughout to create contrast among the monochromatic number. TPU eyelets and 992 brandings on the collar, tongue, and heel remain, embracing the classic look. To round out the design and nod to its performance trainer origins, a rubber midsole and outsole provides the traction demanded by various surfaces. Overall, the pair serves as a trendy, tonal take on a timeless silhouette.
The New Balance 992 is slated to release on May 1st at select retailers, with details regarding an official New Balance yet to be announced.
In other news related to the Boston-based brand, Japanese label Beauty & Youth is offering an olive and suede New Balance 327.
