Lupe Fiasco once rapped, “the reason I got fly is Ibn Jasper.” To the uninformed, the name drop might’ve just been random, but to those in the know, it was a shoutout and touchpoint to a well-connected barber from Chicago.
Over the years, Jasper has been linked to the likes of Kanye West and Virgil Abloh, serving as a friend, consultant and “Master Barber” as is listed on his Instagram page. In 2018, the low-key figure announced the launch of his own footwear brand, STRATICA INTERNATIONAL, on social media, which fit in with the myriad of skate and motorsports-related content published on the ‘gram. On May 20th, “Ferrari Murakami” is set to drop a Converse One Star collaboration that builds upon the work he’s already done with STRATICA INTERNATIONAL. The low-top silhouette is reimagined with aggressive tooling, functional pull tabs at the heel and a mix of high-quality materials throughout the upper. Together, each aforementioned component fuses all the worlds in which Jasper and his taste-making crew dabble. Color palettes across both of the Chicagoan’s Converse styles indulge in relatively classic tones, though checkerboard flags and other contrasting accents give the One Star pairs refreshing touches.
Enjoy a first look at the Ibn Jasper x Converse duo ahead, and find the sneakers available via Converse.com on Friday, May 20th, for $150 USD.
