Sneaker News For American pop artist Nina Chanel Abney, no conversation is off the table. She’s tackled the most crucial social issues head on through her paintings, largely recognized for its bold use of color and abstract figures. Jordan Brand has recognized not only the talent, but the mission behind Abney and her life’s work, and through this capsule of footwear and apparel, the two aim to spread the message beyond exhibits and into wearable art.
At the centerpiece of the Nina Chanel Abney x Jordan collection is the Air Jordan 2, completely reimagined in two ways. A reductive reimagination of the Air Jordan 2, the iconic silhouette is simplified via a smooth heel counter and a simple heel-tab, while the signature mudguard is lightened to a simple toe-guard. The signature eyelets of the Air Jordan 2 have also been removed in favor a cleaner arrangement of holes. Red and green, signature colors of Abney’s work, are featured individually on the Mid and Low.
In addition to the Air Jordan 2, a through collection of hoodies, tees, and other accessories are available featuring MJ iconography interpreted in Abney’s personal style.
