Nike is not shy about its Japanese influences, as the brand has previously and outspokenly celebrated the country’s many festivals as well as their expertise with indigo dyes. And much like the Air Max 95 revealed weeks ago, this Air Max 97 continues to pay tribute to Japan by honoring one of their most beloved fishes: Koi, also referred to as Nishikigoi.
Compared to its above-mentioned counterpart, this Air Max 97 is colored with much bolder hues. The suede across the mudguard, for starters, features a bright gold, a finish that also highlights the lace unit, adjacent leather trims, and the fish scale pattern across the tongue and side. Elsewhere, the rest of the construction, not including the insoles, is primarily comprised of white neutrals; said sockliners instead proffer black, using said shade to better highlight the Koi fish printed right over top.
