The 1980’s saw an explosion of sportswear brands competing to outfit the NBA’s best in their on-court silhouettes. Michael was rocking the beginnings of his iconic Jordan Brand, The Swoosh birthed its heralded Air Force 1 construction while Patrick Ewing battled down low in the adidas Rivalry Hi.
Capitalizing off of the wave of nostalgic basketball efforts over the past few years, adidas is now returning to the construction of its staple Rivalry Lo from 1986 in a duo of vintage-hued propositions.
Exposed foam, tumbled leathers and “Sail” shaded soles all harken the game’s feel from decades before, centering on a titular red/white combination alongside a white/grey effort. Color blocked identically, the aforementioned shades lay claim to the sock liner, heel tabs, upper eye stays, patent vamp overlay and adidas branded midsole while the surrounding premium leather enjoys a crisp white base layer. Cream-colored laces in tandem with its matching tread underfoot look to further establish the Three Stripes 80s-inspired color palette whereas old-school basketball branding lays claim to the tongue tabs in conclusion.
While we sit tight on the pair’s potential release date – expected to retail for $110 – enjoy official images of the two pairs of the adidas Rivalry Lo ’86 below in the meantime.
