Jovani Hernandez NIKE, Inc. unveiled its 18th footwear collection with the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on Oct. 28, 2022. Six designs in total were revealed, including an Air Jordan 1 Low OG imagined by Riddhi Mahajan.
A native of Portland, Ore., Mahajan idolizes Serena Williams. An aspiring doctor, the 15-year-old suffers from Cystic fibrosis. For her Air Jordan design, the black-belt-in-Tae-Kwon-Do-holder went colorful, covering Michael Jordan’s first signature sneaker in shades of green and purple. “Radiate positivity” messaging is printed on the lateral side, words Mahajan lives by on a daily basis. Elsewhere, flower and sun graphics appear on the heel and tongue label, respectively; the ombré laces recreate the sunrise in a vibrant manner. Down below, the sole unit maintains a clean color scheme that allows for the upper to shine.
