Michael Le Pre-distressed and pre-aged sneakers have become all the rage with several of the footwear industry’s biggest names, from Golden Goose all the way to Jordan Brand. And now it seems New Balance, too, are following suit, reimagining the 550 to appear many, many miles worn.
While onlookers are sure attribute its design to the Jumpman’s “Reimagined” series, this New Balance 550 seems to borrow more cues from Golden Goose’s own catalog. Rather than limit itself to yellowed midsoles and cracked leathers, the pair opts for scuffs throughout its upper and sole, with subtle oxidation present across not just its white leathers but also the blues along the “N” logo. The suede trims and toe box are also treated to slight wear, giving the overall colorway the impression of a shoe that’s been put through its paces.
