Jovani Hernandez The Nike Air Max 90 Futura isn’t entirely new, but it pushes the boundaries of what a swoosh-branded sneaker is in the year 2023.
Inspired by minimalism and futurism, Tinker Hatfield’s reworked design is more fashion-statement than performance product. Most of the upper’s string of overlays are abandoned in favor of a stripped-back arrangement that sees a focus on the sneaker’s iconic mudguard. Components along the tongue boast a layered makeup that injects a certain playfulness into the Air Max 90 Futura. The iridescent finish applied to the pair’s mudguard follows suit. Underfoot, sole units maintain their traditional builds, rooting the modern design in heritage. Visible Air Max bubbles showcase cream-colored pillars that contrast the upper. Waffle-patterned traction matches the black found on the tongue and heel pull tabs, while “Just Do It” messaging rounds out the updated Air Max 90 via the lace dubraes.
