In late September 2022, adidas announced a partnership with none other than Yu-Gi-Oh!, the beloved franchise created by Kazuki Takahashi. Over its first two releases, the collaborators highlighted Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes White Dragon, two characters just as iconic as the franchises’ protagonists.
Recently, an adidas Superstar surfaced with imagery of the Winged Dragon of Ra, one of the three Egyptian gods introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game in 2004. The shell-toe is covered in a “Cloud White,” “Core Black,” and “Metallic Gold” color scheme, with the most latter hue matching the Egyptian god’s shimmering look. Profile 3-Stripes and rubber toes indulge in a golden finish, while the lateral sidewalls boast graphics of the Winged Dragon of Ra. Marik, the Egyptian god’s owner before Yugi Mutou took ownership of it, is printed on the tongue, replacing traditional Three Stripes branding; logos on the right shoe’s spine follow suit. Sockliners and the shoe box also partake in the grandeur of the shell-toe’s protagonist, making for another historic cross-over between the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise and German sportswear brand.
Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead. A stateside adidas.com launch may be on the horizon, but the shoes are currently available at select retailers for $90 USD.
