In the past couple of years, the New Balance 550 has emerged as one of the key drivers in the brand’s streetwear revival. Arguably the most iconic came with several Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 drops. As their general release calendar begins to take shape, the imprint is tapping into that DNA for a women’s exclusive release.
The link to those high-profile link-ups from the past comes in the layout of this “Salt Marsh” pair. The white-dominant formulation used there is again employed here. Contrast is provided by the “Salt Marsh” teal shade that adorns the side New Balance logo, the sock liner and a few slices of the tongue. “Limelight” pastel accents drive home a flowery, bright feel outlining some of those aforementioned elements, and in the center of the shoe underlining the New Balance tab.
Though it’s a formula that still works well in this case, New Balance isn’t necessarily reinventing the wheel with this specific release. The “Salt Marsh” provide an accessible entry point for those looking to get in on one of the Boston brand’s most popular models. No release date has been confirmed as of right now, but a price point of $120 has. Keep an eye out for these at local retailers and on newbalance.com.
