Aimé Leon Dore is releasing another set of both the New Balance 550 and 650 as part of its Fall/Winter 2023 efforts.
Prepped under the “International Friendship Through Basketball” banner, the latest four styles from Teddy Santis and company stays true to the inaugural collection from late 2020. Each pair features a muted leather upper – the lower silhouette favors a yellowed finish – complemented by hits of green, gold, and navy. Rooted in sport, ALD’s latest batch of 1980s hoops models draws inspiration from the Masaryk Community Gym located in New York’s Lower East Side (LES).
Aimé Leon Dore brought new life to the location in 2022 with the help of New Balance, expanding its relationship with the sport’s performance and lifestyle sides. Santis tapped fellow Queens-native Sylven Landesberg to unveil the latest “International Friendship Through Basketball” offerings, highlighting NYC’s diversity and basketball’s community-building aspect.
ALD’s New Balance 650s for Fall/Winter 2023 deliver a pristine look that contrasts the accompanying NB 550 duo. The biggest departure from previous takes on Steven Smith’s designs from the 1980s arrives in the form of mesh overlays across the tongue, profile “N” logos, and heel. The modification brings both performance benefits and visual refreshes to two silhouettes that helped the Boston-based brand capitalize on the 80s footwear trend over the last three years.

The low-top is priced at $130 USD whereas the high-top retails for $165 USD. Santis and company have announced that the Fall 2023 SONNY New York (a nod to Team SONNY, a 15u AAU basketball team led by Kenny Satterfield) collection will be “Available Friday 11am EST in-store and online.”
