Matt Varga The New Balance WRPD Runner has emerged since last Fall as one of the Boston brand’s true spotlight models, unveiling over a dozen general release colorways over that span. However, our outstanding question with the silhouette regards our very first look at it. At last June’s Paris Fashion Week, AURALEE displayed two collaborative colorways, but concrete release details evaded us after that debut. We’re now getting our best look at the collection yet, and now know its release is coming in just one week.
While the contrast in brightness is stark across the beige and black editions, both continue the overwhelming tonality we’ve seen throughout AURALEE New Balance catalog. The lighter edition particularly is almost one-note, drenching the model in an ecru shade that’s slightly tinted on the midsole and webbed overlays at the quarter. Additionally, the material change for the two is easily seen with this version, that quarter section swapped to nubuck to contrast the textured suede that stretches towards the toe. All of that remains true for the black & navy edition, though the palette takes a hard left into totally nocturnal territory.
