The ISPA label continues subverting expectations.

Nike ISPA Just Released A Poncho That Converts Into A Tent

As a company that famously prides itself on innovation, Nike is used to making headlines with products that run counter to public expectations. The sub-brand that’s arguably done so the most in recent memory is Nike ISPA (Improvise, Scavenge, Protect, Adapt), likely familiar to sneakerheads through the Nike ISPA Link and Nike ISPA Link Axis. Wading into the apparel waters, the imprint just unveiled the “Metamorph Poncho,” a dual-purpose piece meant to radically change your next camping trip.

The claim in the headline is the main selling point here. As you can see in the images below, the “default” configuration of this item is a futuristic, drapey poncho, with utility straps and closures cleverly dotted throughout the design. Once you settle down, the true ingenuity becomes clear. A pouch at the back conceals dozens of tent poles and detailed setup instructions. After you put in a bit of elbow grease, the Metamorph provides static shelter from the elements in its new layout, taking you from point A to point B and helping you set up camp upon arrival.

Though certainly visible in mainline Nike Next Nature releases, sustainability is a true emphasis of the ISPA umbrella. That’s again expressed with this piece boasting 75% recycled material. Its nylon layers reutilize material from carpets and fish nets, spun into new fibers after undergoing a chemical cleaning process. Though this shapeshifting design is an industry-first regardless, it is important to note that Nike presents this as a poncho/”sunshade,” a potentially crucial distinction before you set out with the ISPA Metamorph.

The Nike ISPA Metamorph is available now via Nike.com, commanding a premium $600 price tag. Check out official product images just ahead.
