Sneakerheads have had their pick of the litter when it comes to mainline New Balance 1906R colorways, but for some, the best shoes simply come coated in black. If you’re of that opinion, there’s good news ahead. The Boston brand just dressed the New Balance 1906U, the utility-minded sibling of the New Balance 1906R, in a clean “Triple Black” colorway.
As implied, bright colors and metallic silver accents are dropped entirely in favor of a muted, stealthy aesthetic here. A ripstop base and rope laces speak to the utilitarian nature of the version at hand, complemented by leather overlays and a TPU heel counter – two 1906 mainstays that keep Y2K aesthetics alive and well. The shoe’s “utility” descriptor might suggest specific weather/durability enhancements, but aside from slight upgrades to the base and laces, the moniker serves as more of a marketing tactic than anything else. That’s to say; don’t get these confused for a GORE-TEX shoe.
