Few collaborations have as much geographical sway as Stone Island x New Balance. The imprints, each central to the British streetwear scene, first came together with a one-off collab more than a decade ago before their partnership was renewed in more concrete fashion in 2021. Notably, the New Balance 574 Legacy is the canvas here, a 2022 formulation that Stone Island took to last Spring. Speaking in broad strokes, the full structure is exaggerated and sized up, bringing a taller sole, jutting ENCAP unit and extended toebox to NB’s low-cost fan favorite. On this capsule, Stone Island’s contributions result in a typically low-key end product, though the addition of grid patterned synthetic underpinnings imbue a utility-minded atmosphere. While the olive pair fully expresses earthy neutrals, the aquamarine & ochre edition allows for some pop within those same understated bounds. Closing out the design of each, the midsole splits between off-white and eggshell while the special edition nature is driven home with compass logo tongue patches.
