Matt Varga We’ve been discussing Olympic-centric footwear for what feels like an age at this point, but the Opening Ceremony is now finally within reach. adidas is sneaking in one last collaborative capsule to celebrate. Frequent partner Sporty & Rich brings their elevated design language to the Samba, Handball Spezial and adistar Cushion, both set to launch on July 29th.
It’s essentially a home/away split between the two lifestle pairs on offer. The adidas Handball Spezial takes to classic red suede, pinning reflective navy on its heel cup and bearing pure white Three Stripes branding on each side. The Samba flips the script, sporting navy & gum instead on the Three Stripes while relying on a mix of platinum & off-white across its body. Both of these low-key kicks carry a silken interior & foot entrance, trademark gum soles, and golden branding details throughout.
For the adistar Cushion, that silhouette’s techy appeal lives on with a heavy smattering of metallics. Those same Americana notes of navy & red and applied tastefully throughout the shoe’s profile, appearing in synthetic graphic swatches towards the toe-box and outlining the Three Stripes branding, as well as weaving throughout the midsole. That last detail is emphasized by an adidas Trefoil gold medal hangtag that arrives with all three, physically expressing the quest for gold that US and global athletes will embark on in just a few short days.
