The three founders of Amsterdam’s Daily Paper have always placed their collective African heritage at the forefront of their own offerings and collaborative capsules, something we at Sneaker News have been familiar with since their Puma collaboration way back in 2017. With the imprint taking a hiatus from out-of-house footwear in the time since, Daily Paper is returning to the world of sneakers with a two-piece Converse capsule.
Beginning with the classic Chuck Taylor, Daily Paper works their shield logo into this pair with reflective all-over print, flashing in and out of view atop a canvas upper. Exposed stitching, laces and a patch on the midsole each deliver colors of the Pan-African flag. That same tonality also paints the Converse emblem on the lateral side, mirrored with circular embroidery of the Daily Paper name on the medial.
While it’s hard to argue with the classic appeal of the Chuck 70, the two partners also offer up an execution in more modern style. The futuristic, blocky Chuck 70 De Luxe Squared model, first introduced with a heavy dose of Swarovski crystals towards the top of the year, appears in similar blacked-out aesthetics. The same Pan-African colors of red, yellow & green interrupt that nocturnal atmosphere, weaving the rope laces, painting a striped outsole and taking to the Converse All-Star emblem towards the collar.
The Daily Paper Converse capsule, including both the Chuck 70 and the Chuck 70 De Luxe Squared, launches on October 1st. Retail is set at $110 for either shoe, and an co-branded apparel collection will be coming alongside.
