High fashion-inspired footwear may be a defining development in 2024 with pairs like the Ballet Air Rift or the New Balance 1906L, but Salomon and Maison Margiela are truly originators in the genre. Already marking off an incredible splashy moment when one of their collab pairs cracked the Super Bowl halftime show, each successive link-up has pushed the envelope further within the bounds of Salomon classics. Next up is the XT-Mary, Maison Margiela flipping the outdoorsy XT-4 silhouette into a true Mary Jane style for Fall.
Similarly to their last link-up, a mule version of the XT-6, the material changes genuinely speak for themselves. A strip is taken out of the trail runner to achieve the open dorsal look, with an additional closure strap affixed to the top of the “lace-stays” to round out the conversion. Otherwise, the classic construction remains, creating some natural dissonance between the techy aspects of Salomon’s original design and Maison Margiela’s rebrand of the shoe as a runway-ready style.
Billed as a unisex style, the XT-Mary arrives in two debut colorways, creating natural contrast between the ultra-vibrant pink & yellow and a stealthy all-black arrangement. Look for the Margiela Salomon XT-Mary via Margiela and Salomon channels on October 17th, with select partnering boutiques also receiving stock. Retail is set at $410. While we await more details, check out product shots of the black & multi-color editions ahead.
