Andrew Rizzo The New Balance 550 was a frequent sight on our newswire not too long ago, but in order to make space for trending tech runners like the New Balance 1906R and 2002R, the pace of 550 releases has slowed to a crawl in recent months. While the retro basketball-turned-lifestyle model doesn’t appear to be a focal point for the Boston brand in 2025, its short yet impactful run of dominance in the early 2020s gathered a sizable fanbase that would likely be upset to see it go away entirely.
Official images of a new black and white colorway for women just surfaced, indicating that the 550 will likely remain a part of the New Balance catalog moving forward. Given the fact that less quantity is expected in 2025, New Balance opts for simple, crowd-pleasing makeup here. Matte black leather comprises most of the upper, save for glossy patent leather hits on the New Balance logos and collar underlay.
