John Kim Jordan Brand is ready to roll out the Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 “Bred” ahead of its expected February launch. After resurfacing the fabled story of Michael Jordan’s banned sneakers, the Jordan Brand Instagram account suddenly went incognito, wiping its feed before disappearing off the grid. Now, retail partners for the upcoming Air Jordan 1 release are sharing some inside footage of the shoe to detail the design behind the iconic Retro.
You might be thinking: what’s there to design? Given the shoe’s forty-year history, there might not seem like much to do bringing back a time-tested sneaker. Despite that, there hasn’t been a true one-to-one replication of the original, although the Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 does come close.
The design team at Jordan reveals that they started from the ground up. “There wasn’t a recipe book left behind by the original team. We had to basically create this from scratch, sorta reverse engineer it,” says Jason Grisby, Jordan Product Director.
Sources close to Sneaker News confirm that the Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 will be an extremely limited release, with only 23 total retail partners chosen to partake in the launch. Each of these shops will conduct their own promotional roll-out of the shoes with a “white-glove” presentation.
