Sneaker News Not many retailers, let alone footwear shops, can say they’ve been in business for 85 years. Tip Top Shoes can. They’ve been an Upper West Side NYC institution for nearly a century, purveying fine dress shoes and other footwear for the community decade after decade, while its sister store West NYC has been purveying goods specifically targeted at the shoe-heads. Iconic is a word that gets thrown around too much, but it applies here.
To celebrate this milestone, Tip Top Shoes/West NYC has partnered with adidas Originals for a two-pair project with thoughtful packaging that tells the stories of each respective shop’s legacy. Tip Top Shoes, known more for leather dress shoes, translates that expertise onto a burgundy and brown colored SL72 embellished with wing-tip oxford styling. West NYC’s take on the Handball Spezial reflects its younger side, with pink-colored boucle and “West Side Best Side” on the heel-tabs.
A storefront doesn’t stay in business this long without giving back. Tip Top Shoes has pledged a portion of the proceeds from this release to be donated to Two Ten Foundation, a non-profit organization to supporting and empowering workers in the footwear industry.
West NYC and adidas Cornerstone Community will host a launch event on April 24, featuring a live DJ set by Nina Sky. Both pairs will be available exclusively at Tip Top Shoes and WEST NYC on April 26th.
