It’s sometimes important to remind ourselves that the hype market and limited product only makes up a fraction of what any footwear brand makes their bones on. Catering to the everday consumer is a far bigger priority from a company-wide standpoint, so though the New Balance 2002R “Burgundy” may not be bound for resale premiums, it is an example of keeping the main thing the main thing.

As seen in these shots, the brand’s continuing prioritization of quality materials remains in place even with a more accessible product, as the suede overlays feature a semi-shaggy finish. The burgundy hues that said sections deliver are truly in the starring role here, especially given that NB’s favored blend of off-white and light grey takes over the mesh and leather underneath. Again, this pair is unlikely to break necks if you pull it out the closet, but it does present a comfort-forward model that can seamlessly tack onto summer outfits in the months ahead.
