Andrew Rizzo Taiwanese streetwear and sneaker retailer Invincible is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its first ASICS collab with another GEL-Nimbus 10.1 release on October 18th.
The design brings two key references to the helm. First comes Invincible’s GEL-Lyte III collaboration from 2015 — a release so strong we anointed it one of the best GEL-Lyte III drops of that year. With the model still hot due to Ronnie Fieg’s “Salmon Toe” collab from earlier that decade, Invincible’s pair drew inspiration from 1542, when Portuguese sailors sighted the main island of Taiwan and named it Ilha Formosa, or “beautiful island.” The sneaker featured a grey colorway inspired by the native Crested Goshawk bird.
The other reference is an entirely different one, calling back to the deconstructed, futuristic “HTTP 404” theme that defined Invincible’s first GEL-Nimbus 10.1 collab from earlier this year. This special 10th anniversary release is dubbed “404 RGB,” with the “G” reimagined as “Grey” in direct homage to the original GEL-Lyte III colorway.
The left and right shoes alternate between leather, suede, and multiple mesh types in different areas, echoing a theme rooted in the beauty of imperfection. The quarter panels are semi-detached around the midsole, while large ASICS logos sit atop synthetic material on the toe box. Mismatched red and blue accents on the tongue logos and heel tabs tie in with the colors of Taiwan’s Double Tenth Day — observed annually on October 10th — completing the “RGB” concept.
The Invincible ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1 “404 RGB” releases October 18th in Asia at Invincible locations, followed by a global ASICS release on October 23rd. See official images below if you’re set on copping.
