The arrival of official images now brings us one step closer.
Yes, this 2025 edition marks the sneaker’s first-ever retro release. Contrary to popular belief, the original didn’t coincide with the model’s debut in 1985. The sneaker actually dropped in 2016 — and quite frankly, these things flopped upon release, partly due to the far more coveted “Chicago” high-top retro from the year prior. The Low could be found at steep discounts in outlet stores for seasons after its launch; the Air Jordan 1 Low simply wasn’t a sought-after silhouette at the time. But once the Air Jordan 1 rose back into the spotlight in the late 2010s and early 2020s, resale prices skyrocketed to nearly quadruple digits in most sizes.
Nine years later, the Jordan 1 Low OG “Chicago” is a retro release many have circled on their calendars. Importantly, it also marks a return to the big Swoosh Air Jordan 1 Low OG styling that Jordan Brand last leaned into during the mid-2010s before shifting to the smaller Swoosh. A handful of additional big Swoosh releases have already dropped or are on the way, including a “Medium Olive” colorway that some may liken to Travis Scott shoes.
