Andre Agassi’s Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 is one of the most influential pieces of tennis footwear ever, the best signature sneaker for one of the most famous tennis stars of the 1990s, and a muse for another Nike icon in the Air Yeezy 2. Collectors have therefore been pleased to see it return from the archives in recent years, albeit we’ve only gotten three drops total since the “Hot Lava” kicked things off in 2024. Now we’re learning that the Air Tech Challenge 2 will be used to celebrate the US Open… sort of.
Sneaker Files and zSneakerHeadz report that Jordan Brand is releasing an Air Jordan 7 called “Tennis Day” on September 9th, taking inspiration from Agassi’s colorful kicks and ’90s fits with a palette of “Phantom/Lemon Twist-Pink Blast-Anthracite.” The Air Jordan 7 is indeed set to come back following a few dormant years, the “Tennis Day” being one of the previously-unknown styles we tipped off upon news of the model’s return earlier this month. The speculative mockups above and below provide an idea of what to expect, showing the Air Tech Challenge 2’s signature paint splatter across select areas of the midsole. As always, the exact color blocking and materials have yet to be confirmed as of this writing. We’ll remain optimistic in lieu of official images, but there’s no doubting Agassi heads would gladly take more actual Air Tech Challenge 2 retros over whatever this turns out to be.
The Air Jordan 7 “Tennis Day” is set to release September 9th, 2026 via Nike and retailers, per Sneaker Files and zSneakerHeadz. Adult and grade school sizes will be available for $215 and $155, respectively. We’ll update our coverage with official images as soon as they become available.
