Matt Varga Detroit has found an unlikely champion in the world of basketball shoes. Until the Nike Cade 1 finally comes about, it appears that Devin Booker will hold onto his status as the city’s foremost representative in hoops shoes, as his Nike Book 2 amasses an impressive roster of Motor City merchandise. Our newswire has been absolutely awash with updates merging his (original) hometown and his second sig shoe; the Chevy Book 2, the Book 2 “Iron Fist,” the Book 2 “Tigers,” and now, the Nike Book 2 “Detroit Lions.”
Perhaps more than putting on for the Michigan metropolis, what’s been particularly impressive about the Suns superstar’s recent spree has been the rare opportunity to bridge tentpole American franchises with the Nike Basketball roster. Utilizing the Lions logo for the original Book 1 “Detroit Stompers” was one thing, given it eventually remained a one-off player exclusive, but painting a full treatment of Honolulu Blue and the team’s branding on a public release is a genuine step up.
Arriving on the Foamposite-like build that’s seen plenty of burn to date, the rest of this colorway makes good on the team’s jerseys, as metallic silver branding and grey hits down the tongue and heel align with what Detroiters line up for every Sunday. As with the aforementioned Joe Louis homage, a full-size map of Motown appears on the insoles.
As mentioned in our title, the Nike Book 2 “Detroit Lions” arrives on September 4th, retailing for $155. Catch detailed images included below.
