We couldn’t credibly claim that the Nike Air Max 90 is entirely wanting for spotlight moments. The NFL Air Max 90 pack and Wagyu Air Max 90 have provided some in just the past few weeks, yet still we feel compelled to call out one particular deficiency compared to its peers. With the Air Max 95 “Big Bubble” celebration raging on and a potential anniversary rollout for the Air Max 97 incoming for 2027, it may be 2030 before Tinker Hatfield’s design truly becomes the belle of the ball once again.

Luckily, fans of the model still get just enough to look forward to even if it isn’t a top-level focus. One such pair arrives with this “Grid Tongue” version. With that choice, utilizing perforated checks down the midline, we’re almost reminded of the Air Max 90 Drift, especially as you zoom out to a neutral-toned foundation and futuristic flares of light green in the branding and Air unit. Overall, that patterned touch helps to push this shoe beyond the bounds of typical GRs, but a complementary overall palette means that these still carry the usual “goes with everything” aspect expected from the Air Max 90.
