The Duke of Wellington just looks incomplete without his traffic cone. Delivering just the kind of niche reference sneaker fans geek out over, Nike is dropping an Air Max Plus “Glasgow” inspired by the Scottish city and one of its most famous traditions, taking cues from traffic cones on a black and Safety Orange colorway for Fall/Winter 2026.
In the 1980s, what likely began as some late night hooliganism after a few pints developed into one of the city’s most beloved traditions. Folks began putting traffic cones on the head of the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington, a fun display of Glaswegian humour and spirit for most, or “vandalism” if you’re gonna be lame and technical about it.
That tradition now inspires an Air Max Plus with a handful of well-executed touches, namely an orange traffic cone graphic on the inner tongue and “Glasgow” text on the outer tongue. The Air unit within the heel reads “Mad wae it,” a Scottish colloquialism meaning, well, hammered. The main Safety Orange placement lives on the bottom half of the upper, placed gradient style within a larger abstract pattern inspired by rave culture. Glasgow joins cities like Lisbon, Marseille, and Naples in receiving its own inspired Air Max Plus colorway, each locale having historically expressed love for the TN in its own way.
The Nike Air Max Plus “Glasgow” doesn’t have a release date yet, but the pair could be timed to St. Andrew’s Day in late November. Check out official images below and visit our Sneaker Release Dates page to browse more upcoming pairs.
