As the second half of 2020 gets underway, NIKE, Inc. has solidified itself as a strong candidate for “Sneaker Brand of the Year”.
Under its Jordan Brand imprint, the 56-year-old company has remained in the headlines not only thanks to its partnerships with OFF-WHITE and Dior, but also through its own merit. The Jordan 1 could release in its original colorways every quarter to much fanfare, but it’s consistently rejecting resting on its laurels in favor of reinventing itself. Case in point: an Air Zoom-cushioned iteration boasting the Nike Space Hippie line’s Crater Foam and the handful of eclectic pairs of both the Jordan 1 Mid and Jordan 1 Low. Other Air Jordan silhouettes like the Jordan 13 and Jordan 4 also emerged in brand new takes that solidify Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker like the most successful one of all time.
In regards to its core line, The Swoosh showed some overdue-love to the Centre Pompidou-inspired Air Max 1, while having simultaneously introduced the Nike VaporMax 2020. Furthermore, the Dunk from ‘85 surfaced with a reworked design currently dubbed the “Dunked”; the Air Presto given to Australia’s Olympic Team in 2000 also got green-lit for its first ever retail launch; and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Zoom Freak 2 model was officially unveiled after earlier leaks. Nike’s grandest headline this week, however, related to the brand’s SB collaboration with the Grateful Dead, which has its three pairs releasing between July 18th and 24th.
adidas revealed another collaboration with Star Wars. But instead of a Yoda Ultra Boost or Stormtrooper NMD, the latest joint-effort arrives in the form of a Stan Smith inspired by Luke Skywalker.
For all that and more, check out our top twelve headlines from July 11th to July 17th ahead.
