For years, Jaden Smith has aligned himself with purposeful projects, initiatives and collaborations. Through his partnership with New Balance, the 23-year-old has championed sustainability efforts. For his latest proposition, the multi-hyphenate has brought his eco-consciousness to the New Balance 574.
At a glance, the 33-year-old design maintains the general shape with which it debuted in 1988, but closer inspection reveals a handful of updates courtesy of Mr. Smith. Although the pair’s multi-color arrangement is fitting of @c.syresmith’s eccentric style, it’s rooted entirely in upcycling. The semi-floating panels comprise of 73% surplus materials, 18% virgin ones and 9% recycled content, delivering a stylish, 1-of-1 makeup while helping save the planet. Underfoot, the iconic silhouette maintains its traditional ENCAP-supported sole unit, which had stood the test of time despite advancements in the technical runner space.
