Jovani Hernandez Originally scheduled for a Holiday 2021 release, Union Los Angeles‘ Air Jordan 2 “Future Is Now” collection finally launches tomorrow, April 15th.
While LA County residents got first-dibs at both “Rattan” and “Grey Fog” retros on April 10th, a wider audience will have a chance at buying either pair via the Nike SNKRS app soon, with the latter colorway hitting global retailers on April 22nd. Both iterations of Michael Jordan’s second signature sneaker are inspired by what Chris Gibbs and team think footwear from the future might look like after some wear, tear and patina-ing: “So often you see people’s vision of the future and [it’s] all crisp and sterile. We thought it might be fun to wear it in a little bit and make it organic,” the brand shared in an official statement unveiling its latest Air Jordan collaboration. Titular “Rattan” and “Grey Fog” tones, then, are accompanied by “aged” laces, manufacturing labels and other details. Together, each aforementioned component delivers a breath of fresh air to a historically-overlooked sneaker design.
