Despite favoring straightforward two-tone color combinations, the New Balance 550 has won over countless sneaker enthusiasts with its more experimental ensembles. Recently, Steven Smith’s design from 1989 emerged in a medley of tones and materials deserving of a “USA” moniker.
Leather and textile material comes together across the sneaker’s upper, following suit with the standard build from decades ago. Panel lining, profile “N” logos, and collar areas feature a contrasting black tone, deviating from their white-colored surroundings. Reinforcement at the toe and around the heel favor a hairy suede dipped in a denim-reminiscent navy, while the tooling solution underfoot rounds out the “patriotic” color combination in an off-white, grey, and red arrangement. Together, the aforementioned components help create one of the more experimental general releases of New Balance‘s ’80s basketball sneaker.
Enjoy official images of the pair ahead, and anticipate a newbalance.com launch in the first-half of 2023.
