The Air Jordan 1 Low Returns With Sashiko Craftwork

NIKE, Inc.’s influence on Japan is no secret, but the North American conglomerate has returned the favor over the last handful of years.

Recently, the Oregon-based company’s Air Jordan 1 Low has emerged in a craftwork-focused “Sashiko” style. Denim-like panels across the forefoot, along the tongue, and around the heel introduce a light blue into the mix. Furthermore, the fabric panels feature a traditional white stitching pattern rooted in Japanese craftwork. The near-identical Nike Dunk Low has also appeared with similar design cues, further commemorating the Far East country. Base layers opt for a clean finish that allows for black-colored profile swooshes to stand out. Underfoot, midsoles favor an “aged” arrangement that ties in well with the traditional sashiko process. Outsoles on the original Air Jordan keep things simple in a pitch-dark look, rounding out the special proposition.
