Jacquemus has managed to be equally honorific and irreverent of classic Nike footwear designs with its daring re-imaginations. From the J Force 1 with its thick-banded leather weave to their blended Air Humara, Jacquemus x Nike collaborations have certainly stirred the pot, intending to poke at the sides of loyalists who rarely accept anything out of the normal bounds.
The Jacquemus Nike Air Max 1 ’86 might be too much to handle for those folks. For fans of the French fashion label, this is exactly what’s needed to give the classic running shoe a jolt of excitement.
Officially unveiled today, Jacquemus’ third collaboration with Nike reveals Tinker Hatfield’s 1 before the 1 with a complete overhaul. While the base silhouette remains, the upper mudguard has been re-cut, most notably at the forefoot where the outsole traction scoops up to bisects the mudguard at the toe.
All three pairs from this capsule are currently listed as “Coming Soon” on the Jacquemus website, with an MSRP of $180 attached to each pair. See a detailed look at each just below and stay tuned for updates. The overlays at the quarter and mid-foot are gone, allowing the mesh base to stretch from the toe to heel, while the cinched ankle collar adds refinement.
The transformation continues on the sole, where the enlarged Air unit is revealed through a rectangular cut-out, a detail that got the Comments sections rolling when the shoes first leaked nearly a year ago.
As part of the official reveal, Jacquemus shows a third never-before-seen colorway in a daring red, joining the already-previewed silver/navy and white. All three pairs are currently listed as “Coming Soon” on the brand’s online store with an MSRP of $180; they’re set to arrive sometime in June.
