Andrew Rizzo Following the release of the “Mera Mera” Air Max Plus in select markets, the One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus collection continues its rollout with the “Ope Ope” on September 19th. Pairs will be available via select retailers in the United States and Europe.
Only four US stores are carrying the “Ope Ope,” each handling it differently. Arts-Rec is running a raffle for in-store pickup, live now. Sole Play held an online raffle that has since closed. Somewhere is going the SNKRS Pass route. Sneaker Politics has yet to announce its method, though the shop did offer a chance to lock in reservations the other week. Most sneaker collaborations, with all due respect, simply change up a shoe’s colors and maybe add an unconventional material or two. Few go as far in reimagining an existing silhouette, let alone one as recognizable as the Air Max Plus, as the One Piece x Nike collection does. Like its two peers, the “Ope Ope” transforms the Sean McDowell classic with swirly TPU detailing reminiscent of Devil Fruit, doing away with the model’s traditional cage for a new composition tied to the anime. The mudguard takes on a similar transformation, while additional One Piece details hop on the tongue, insoles, and midfoot plate.
