Jovani Hernandez Despite its close association to Aimé Leon Dore, the New Balance 550 has cemented itself in the sneaker zeitgeist through handfuls of compelling solo efforts. Recently, the Steven Smith-designed silhouette emerged in a predominantly white ensemble donning various shades of blue for a look reminiscent of the Nike Dunk Low “Argon.”
Akin to team-friendly styles released in 1989, the newly-surfaced proposition features smooth and perforated leather across its upper, with the majority of the panels opting for a “colorless” makeup. Breathable mesh layers visible around the heel, as well as leather overlays underneath the collar, deviate in different shades of blue; profile “N” logos follow suit, as does the “550” and “NB” branding at the lateral quarter panel and spine, respectively. New Balance rounds out the straightforward offering by applying a partly-“aged” look to the sole unit underfoot.
