Jovani Hernandez The world of sneakers is constantly in motion, especially with the current social media landscape. Over the past week, some of the biggest players in the space revealed new projects, confirmed longtime rumors, and gave us all more than one thing to look forward to after winter.
adidas previewed and began its Consortium Cup, a sneaker design competition that tapped sixteen retailers from across the globe. Additionally, the Three Stripes continued to expand its adidas Originals program, which may see a collaboration with Louis Vuitton in the future now that Pharrell Williams is the French fashion house’s creative director of menswear.
Over at NIKE, Inc. the Swoosh and Brand Jordan dominated the days leading up to NBA All-Star Weekend 2023. The Oregon-based company gifted Ja Morant a special care package that included the Nike JA 1 “12 AM,” a basketball sneaker covered in Swarovski crystals. The Nike Air Max 1 received a slides makeover, while the Air Jordan line continued to expand Michael Jordan’s off-court legacy.
In a move no one expected, Saucony revived the Spot-Bilt Sonic basketball shoe from 1987. Vintage hoops-ready designs have gotten increasingly popular over the past three years and the Massachusetts-based brand is looking to cash in.
