Original article published August 27th, 2024: Los Angeles’ Brain Dead has an expansive rolodex of collaborators, stretching from dedicated outsourcing work via the Oakley Factory Team or simple link-ups like last year’s celebrated ASICS GEL-Nimbus 9. At Paris Fashion Week, they ushered another brand into their canon in typically irreverent fashion, unveiling a pair of adidas Bowling Shoes that sadly remains a friends & family at this stage. However, the next step will make it into public hands, a pair of adidas Stan Smith collabs coming at the start of September.
While co-branding details are usually a finish touch, either pair in pine green and soft pink flips that on its head, instead changing the Three Stripes perforations on either quarter panel to instead reflect the brand’s cranial logo. Additionally, long-haired turf like fabric dots the heel cup, something of a signature of the LA imprint across their previous footwear collabs (2022’s Reebok Shaqnosis and Club C shared this detail) Jagged exposed stitching affixes it to the leather upper of the shoe, a touch matched by distressed contrast stitching that outlines the laces.
Zooming out, the two shoes both contrast those animated, cartoonish details with refined top notes. Classical leather lining and contrast gum soles accomplish this, again tapping into a “worlds collide” motif in the same way that those bowling shoes did towards the top of the year.
