James Harden’s ninth signature adidas Basketball shoe is finally upon us. After arriving overseas in December of 2024, the “Cyber Metallic” Harden Vol 9 is slated to roll out broadly via adidas.com and retailers on January 25th.

Expectations for the new James Harden shoe are high, and for good reason. The Harden Vol 8 was plenty popular among adidas athletes in the NBA last season, championed by the likes of Jalen Williams and Luguentz Dort to name a few notables, and also received solid performance reviews from casual hoopers. However, the shoe’s appearance, namely its TPU sidewalls, turned off some potential buyers.

For their next effort, adidas is seemingly trying to package the performance wins of Vol 8 into a more palatable design. Much like the Vol 8 and other modern adidas signatures like the AE1 and Dame 9, the Harden Vol 9 boils down to an inner fabric bootie and external cage structure.

The cage spans the full length of the upper, complete with abstract stripe cutouts and protruding areas on both sides. The “Cyber Metallic” colorway features a leather exterior, but as evidence by the China-exclusive “Year Of The Snake” edition, adidas has the ability to employ a whole host of different materials.
