BACK WITH A BANG
Ahead of the new year, rumors about several classics from under the Nike Basketball banner have begun to catch steam. Although models like the Nike Air Max Penny 1 returning has excited countless sneaker collectors, few have gotten as great a response as the Nike LeBron 9 “Big Bang” has. While no official release date has been confirmed by the brand, it’s possible the 10-year-old pair will return in February during the 2021-22 NBA All-Star Weekend.
On a different front, James Whitner, founder of The Whitaker Group, launched the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 1 “Airness” on November 24th. A widespread Nike SNKRS drop is scheduled for Friday, December 3rd, and ahead of the release, Sneaker News spoke to the Pittsburgh-native about the collaboration, diversity work he’s been helping implement at NIKE, Inc. and personal accountability in the social media age. Boasting two of the most widely-celebrated Jordans of 2021, Whitner’s team is here to stay, launching product and fighting for change simultaneously.

Ye – the being formerly known as “Kanye West” – has helped bring a lot of attention to the Three Stripes through his adidas YEEZY imprint. Yet, the German sportswear behemoth hasn’t forgotten some of its adidas Originals proposition, re-energizing them through solo and collaborative efforts. On the latter end, the brand has quietly unveiled a large collection with South Park, which includes the adidas Stan Smith, adidas NMD and more inspired by the shows cast of characters. Away from its heritage models, adidas has remained busy with its Hoops category, building performance-oriented footwear for talent the likes of James Harden and Trae Young.
