The Nike Air Force 1 is a regular when it comes to dressing up for the late-October holiday. It has donned countless variations of spooky costumes over the years, but more recently it’s taken subtler approaches in terms of color use. Undeniably a coveted pick is the “Skeleton” concept, which first debuted last season. It reprises its role in an inverted black colorway with the same anatomical portrayal on the upper. Finally, a spirited edition inspired by Dia de los Muertos aka “Day Of The Dead” lands right in the middle of the celebratory period.
Another familiar face to the Halloween-inspired sneaker scene is the Dunk – the mid-1980s basketball shoe that has experienced a second life via Nike’s Skateboarding and Sportswear initiatives. In 2019, Nike delivered a classic take on the holiday with cobwebs, spiders, and pumpkin innards. Years back, SB released one inspired by urban legend Jason Voorhees, the hockey mask-wearing hunter of hilariously vulnerable teen camp-goers. Finally, a High-top inspired by a creepy coffin is outfitted with plush velour and flat leather for a dreadful yet stylish vibe.
Basketball shoes have always served as a creative canvas for intricate design concepts. Here we highlight three of the more notable pairs that span several different brand initiatives and crossovers that have never failed in sending chills. This iteration of the Kyrie 4 signature shoe is an homage to the “Day Of The Dead” SB Dunks – a shoe that has only recently skyrocketed in value. This seasonal Blazer Mid was reimagined by Virgil Abloh as “All Hallow’s Eve”. Finally, the Air Foamposite One was front and center for a major collaboration with LAIKA Studios’ Paranorman, with pairs releasing only via eBay auctions for charity.
