Ten Can’t Miss Sneaker News Headlines From October 30th To November 5th

A SECOND CHANCE

Despite having the most successful athlete-specific signature footwear line ever, Michael Jordan has been associated with some footwear that’s fallen into obscurity. And while some of those propositions are destined to remain there, others have been brought to the forefront with brand energy, a high-profile co-sign or other method. Throughout 2022, the Air Jordan 2 – which was designed by Bruce Kilgore of Nike Air Force 1 fame – is set to have its arguably best year ever.

Away from #23’s signature sneaker series, the Nike Air Trainer 1 is also revving up for a special anniversary, employing figures like Travis Scott to reposition it in the spotlight for a new generation. The Nike LeBron 9, which debuted in 2011, is set to begin its retro run soon, as LeBron James pursues a fifth ring in his 19th NBA season. While not part of the Nike or Jordan Brand family, a handful of adidas models have also enjoyed newfound popularity thanks to re-imaginations from creatives like Kerwin Frost. Regardless of the brand and the product, history has demonstrated that select designs will always have a place in the current day if presented in the proper way.

LOOKING AHEAD

Ye – the being formerly known as “Kanye West” – made headlines over the last seven days for a number of reasons, including a near two-and-a-half hour interview on “Drink Champs.” On the footwear front, however, the self-proclaimed nomad shook up the Internet with new propositions from under his adidas YEEZY imprint: winter-ready boots arrived in the form of the YZY NSLTD BT and YZY KNT RNNR BT, the latter a reinforced version of the laceless YEEZY KNIT RUNNER that debuted in “Sulfur” in late September. Derrick Rose‘s wife, Alaina A. Anderson Rose, shared another shot of the previously-teased YEEZY D ROSE, which she aptly dubbed the “DZY.” Immediately memed whenever posted on social media, the slip-on silhouette is further proof that Ye is constantly in conversation with the future. (During his sit-down conversation with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, the 44-year-old expressed that Black History Month should be done with, and replaced with “Black Future Month” or “Black Possibility Month.”)

Elsewhere, news surfaced that NIKE, Inc. filed multiple applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for use of various logos within digital and virtual spaces. The report shortly followed Facebook’s announcement of its parent company’s name change to Meta, and one of the company’s most cohesive and public addresses regarding the metaverse. Furthermore, new design roles were recently posted on the Swoosh’s job site, all with a focus on virtual product. Needless to say, the innovative North American company is positioning itself to be a pioneer in whatever the metaverse pans out being. And as consumers, we’ll be right there on the ride.
