Thirteen Can’t Miss Sneaker News Headlines from April 3rd to April 9th

With the first full week of April out of the way, the sneaker space saw a number of surprises.

HIGH-GRADE SNEAKERS

After dropping an Easter-friendly pair with Bad Bunny, adidas has tapped Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s “South Park” for a Campus 80s ripe for the widely-celebrated stoner holiday on April 20th (4/20). The inspiration?: The genetically-engineered Towelie, first introduced to the show in 2001. Complete with stash pockets underneath the tongue, the terrycloth adidas Originals playfully nods to the talking towel’s affinity (once addiction) to marijuana via the eyes on the top of the tongue, which turn bloodshot when exposed to UV light.

Away from any 3-Stripes branding, Nike SB revealed the SB Dunk High “Maui Wowie” via official images. Although not depicted in the recently-surfaced product shots, the pair’s floral-patterned upper hides a weed plant-reminiscent suede underneath it. Given how popular Nike Dunks have become over the last two years, acquiring the shoes at retail will be a difficult task, but enthusiasts of the 420 holi-daze will surely find a way to mellow themselves out if they strike out.

Elsewhere underneath each respective brands’ umbrellas, collaborations with Prada and PJ Tucker are in the works. Solo efforts on models like the ZX 8000 and Space Hippie 01 were also revealed throughout the past week.

CHRISTMAS IN APRIL

Rumored Air Jordan retros have become commonplace since the turn of the 21st century, with notable attention payed to end-of-year releases. Ahead of this year’s last three months, credible sources within the sneaker space have teased an extensive 20-pair Jordan Holiday 2021 collection. Comprised of the usual suspects (i.e. Jordan 1, Jordan 3, Jordan 6), the lineup will surely assist NIKE, Inc. in achieving yet another record-breaking quarter, especially if the Jordan 11 “Cool Grey” drops.

Zion Williamson’s Jordan Z Code signature sneaker also emerged in the most detailed images yet, while the new Jordan Delta 2 emerged in a handful of heritage-inspired colorways.
