Eleven Can’t Miss Sneaker News Headlines from July 3rd to July 9th

HALF-WAY THERE

Over the last seven months, dozens of sneakers have both released and been teased. And to commemorate passing the half-way mark of the year (July 2nd), the Sneaker News editorial team put together two lists: The Top 10 Sneakers of 2021 (So Far) and The Top 10 Most Anticipate Sneakers for the Rest of 2021 (So Far).

Now that less than 177 days are left in the year, previously-rumored releases are closer than they once were. Among them, Off-White‘s Nike Air Force 1 “Lemonade,” which is expected to launch soon via select Off-White™ boutiques; adidas YEEZY 380 “Stone Salt”; Quai 54 x Air Jordan 1 Low; and Nike Dunk High “Aluminum.” A handful of Air Jordan pairs for 2022 also surfaced throughout the week, which served as yet another reminder that the end of 2021 is inching faster than we realized.

THE NEW NEW

As part of its 2020 Tokyo Olympics efforts, Nike SB unveiled the ZoomX Bruin, a project that blends two of the late Sandy Bodecker’s greatest contributions to the North American brand. Before the Swoosh’s skateboarding category became the force it is, it was a laughing stock among savvy riders, with propositions like the Choad, Snak and Schimp once promoted by a young Brandon Cole “Bam” Margera. Bodecker, who had been at the Swoosh since 1982, took over Nike SB in the early 2000s with an unprecedented commitment to the community he aimed to serve. Under his leadership, the Nike Dunk Low was modified to cater to skate, while stock was strategically kept away from “big box” stores in favor of distributing pairs through independent skate stores. And while the late Sandy’s contribution on the SB front has been well-documented, a lesser known achievement during his time at Nike arrived during Eliud Kipchoge’s journey to completing a marathon in under two hours. On this front, the aforementioned Bruin features FlyKnit, ZoomX foam and full-length carbon-fiber plate, delivering an ever-important mix of components in Bodecker’s honor.

NIKE, Inc. and adidas unofficially revealed new additions to their storied rosters. Whereas the Swoosh shared images of the Nike Air Max 2021, the Three Stripes “confirmed” a Bad Bunny x adidas Response CL via official images. The latter isn’t a brand new silhouette, but its collaborative nature is a breath of fresh air to the old-school silhouette that may very well be the first step in the brand’s campaign to make the adiPrene-cushioned sneaker the “next big thing.”

For a look at all that and more, including the latest New Balance styles, check out our top headlines from July 3rd to July 9th ahead.
